Synopsis:

When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella's side of the story. At last, readers can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun.

This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward's past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he justify following his heart if it means leading Bella into danger?

Review:

2/5

It has been a while since I read the twilight saga, and even longer since it came out. Midnight sun came out 12 years after the 'final' novel breaking dawn, Officially being released August 4, 2020. The twist, however, is this book is entirely from Edward Cullen's perspective, giving us a new take on the first book.

Midnight Sun is a shocking 690 pages long, compared to the original Twilight's 385, so in short, Edward had a lot to say.

I found a lot of this book was Edward contemplating if he should or would kill Bella, which does make sense given what happens in New Moon. Personally, I found that it began to get repetitive, after any event Edward would spook himself and go on about how he was going to kill Bella until he came to the conclusion that he wouldn't and would debate leaving as if these were truly his only options.

Since I have read all the other books I was looking forward to his thought process when he really decided that he had to leave to keep her safe. It was looked at as an option throughout the book, and even though Alice showed him what would happen if he left.

Overall, I think this book compliments the first twilight book nicely, and provides good insight into why the events occurred in new moon, and also how much he was struggling himself. However, I did feel that parts could have been summed up or ommited to avoid it beginning to feel mechanical.
